As you may know, an access ban was imposed on Instagram in Turkey on August 2nd. However, today at 8:30 PM, Minister Uraloğlu announced that Instagram has officially been reopened, and the access ban has been lifted. As of now, you can access the platform without using a VPN. Let’s take a closer look at the details.
Instagram Reopened, Access Ban Lifted
The access ban on Instagram in Turkey caused quite a stir across the country. The official explanation for the ban came from the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, who stated:
“When it comes to Western countries, we see that social media platforms take quick measures on many issues, especially regarding Catalogue Crimes. From the beginning, we have demanded the same sensitivity and fair stance. We want the safe, clean, and fair content mechanism that these platforms follow in the countries where they comply with the rules to also apply in Turkey.”
Over the past eight days, Minister Uraloğlu made several statements, and we conveyed all developments to you from official sources. During this time, many false reports surfaced, but by following us, you avoided being misled.
On August 10th, around 8:30 PM, Minister Uraloğlu held a live broadcast on his X account, where he discussed negotiations with Meta and announced that Instagram would be reopened today.
He officially announced during that live broadcast that Instagram would be accessible again at 9:30 PM today. And indeed, as of now, the access ban on Instagram has been lifted, and it is officially open in Turkey.
It’s important to note that even though the BTK lifted the access ban on Instagram at 9:30 PM, it may take until midnight for every user to be able to access it without issues. So if you still can’t log in right now, don’t worry—it’s not a problem on your end.
